4 Days from Fes To Marrakech

Day 1

Departure from Fes at 8 o’clock, travelling via Azrou, where you can see Barbary apes in the forest of the Middle Atlas. Lunch is in Midelt, “the apple capital”, at the foot of the Ayachi Mountain. We continue over the Tizi-n-Talremt pass and through the Ziz Valley. From here we reach Errachidia and then Erfoud, famous for its date festival and fossils. Our trip continues to the dunes of Merzouga for spending the night in a campsite.

Day 2

In the morning, a three-hour camel ride across the great sand dunes and through the stony Sahara, is scheduled, stopping to prepare lunch among the dunes. In the afternoon, a camel ride for another three hours is programmed to reach the dunes of Erg Chebbi so as to watch the sunset from the summit (250m). After sunset, the night will be spent in a nomad tent, which is also the venue for dinner.

Day 3

If you wake up early enough, you can watch the spectacle of the sunrise, when the colour of the dunes and the play of shadows are an awesome sight. The return to the hotel in Merzouga for having a shower is on camel back and, after having breakfast, we drive from Merzouga to the Todra gorges for lunch. The road passes through Rissani, Erfoud, Tinjdad, Tinghir and the Todra valley. Here there are plenty of opportunities to walk. In the afternoon, the itinerary continues to Ouarzazate via the valley of a thousand kasbahs, the valley of the roses and the oasis of Skoura. In Ouarzazate, you stay in a hotel.

Day 4

After breakfast, we visit the kasbah of Tifoultoute which belonged to the “Glaoui family” and the Atlas Film Studios. Driving north, you leave the main road and take a side road to the kasbah of Ait ben Haddou for a visit (this site has frequently been used as the background for some memorable scenes in many film masterpieces, such as “Lawrence of Arabia” and “The Gladiator”). From here, you drive along the Ounila valley with beautiful and prosperous villages, stunning mountains and views to Telouet, you will stop to visit the kasbah of Telouet. After having lunch, we cross the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, the highest pass in Morocco, and reach Marrakesh at the end of the afternoon.
